ODYSSEY's mission is to cause excitement about science - to excite, inform, and engage kids ages 9 to 14 with the process of science in their everyday lives. Each issue tackles the hottest topics in physics, biology, and environmental science, introduces new and emerging technologies, and highlights top science careers. Readers have many opportunities to contribute stories about their own science adventures, respond to science-in-society questions, and enter math, science, and writing contests.
Who knew that spelling and science could have such chemistry? We do, now that we’ve discovered Elemensus, a word construction game with a unique twist. As in Scrabble, players use letter tiles to form words on a board. But instead of the alphabet, the tiles show symbols from the periodic table of elements, and word scores are based on the atomic numbers of the elements. Before you know it, you’ll learn the entire periodic table through osmium + molybdenum + silicon + sulfur (OsMoSiS)!
